This course involves students learning a range of different practical skills using the sewing machine and other equipment while working through design-based and practical projects. These projects include:
Textile art with felt - developing a creative felt flower
Creative cushions - developing their machine skills to produce a cushion that reflects their culture
Something old, something new- use a commercial pattern to design to make their own Pyjama pants and then upcycle an old T-shirt to give it new life
Jeweller, Retail Manager, Buyer, Laundry Worker/Dry-cleaner, Garment Technician, Animator/Digital Artist, Business Analyst, Software Developer, Patternmaker, Architect, Architectural Technician, Art Director (Film, Television or Stage), Artist, Sound Technician, Baker, Tailor/Dressmaker, Boat Builder, Naval Architect, Urban/Regional Planner, Cutter, Sewing Machinist, Trainer, Graphic Designer, Interior Designer, Fashion Designer, Make-up Artist, Film/Television Camera Operator

Course Selection does not guarantee entry, some courses have credit requirements and/or will be reviewed by the Head of Faculity.
Any Costs, Equipment or Unit Standards are a guideline and may change.
Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it. Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.
Costs
Rutherford College aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
