Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Successfully completed US24358: Plan and monitor the construction of a BCATS project. Demonstrate safe work practices in Technology and have gained 12 credits in Level 2 Building or with HOF approval.


Building

Students will undertake a course of study based on BCITO Unit Standards. Students are expected to demonstrate a higher level of independence than in Level 2. They will select, use, and apply appropriate tools and techniques to plan, monitor, and document their progress throughout the construction of their mahogany chair. 

To successfully gain credits towards NCEA Level 3 and the Vocational Pathways (Manufacturing and Technology, and Construction and Infrastructure), students must complete key stages of the chair construction as well as the associated planning documentation.

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it.  Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.

Rutherford College aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
