Recommended Prior LearningStudents need to be work ready– responsible, reliable, show initiative, able to organise their own transport to and from work placement, clear idea of the industry they are interested in exploring, able to work independently, excellent time management skills and have an excellent attendance record.
This is a programme for students who are mature and “work ready” who want to experience a realistic work placement or investigate their prospective career of choice. Students will gain work skills relevant to their industry choice whilst on work placement. Students will also be given the opportunity to gain their 1st Aid and Health and Safety Certificates. Trades students will also be given the opportunity to gain their Site Safe Certificate. Placements offered include: Hairdressing, Make Up, Barbering (Cut Above); Retail (The Warehouse, Mitre 10, Countdown); Hospitality (McDonalds);, Travel and Tourism (Flight Attending etc); Trades- Building, Electrical, Plumbing– Trades students must have their NZ Restricted Driver’s Licence; Early Childhood Education and others on request. Transport– students are responsible for any transport costs relating to getting to and from their work / course placements– this will vary for each student.

Mostly Level 2 credits but some industry based credits are at Level three. This will vary depending on the industry choice.

Contributions and Equipment/StationeryThere is no cost associated with this course except for transport getting to and from their work/course placements. This will vary for each student.
Trades students must have their NZ Restricted Drivers Licence
Course Selection does not guarantee entry, some courses have credit requirements and/or will be reviewed by the Head of Faculity.
Any Costs, Equipment or Unit Standards are a guideline and may change.
Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it. Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.
Costs
KHS aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
