Recommended Prior Learning

None. Previous study at Year 10 is beneficial. Study of 11 General Science is also beneficial.


Food Technology

Food is at the heart of our everyday lives — and learning to cook is a skill that lasts a lifetime. In this course, ākonga will build confidence in the kitchen by learning essential cookery techniques and food terminology. As they explore a variety of ingredients, they’ll also get the chance to design and create their own food products in real-world contexts. Along the way, students will discover how to make smart, sustainable food selection and processing choices, adapt recipes to suit different needs, and experiment with cooking methods and substitutions. Whether you're aiming to cook for yourself, your whānau, or because your interested in product development — this course sets you up with the skills to make it happen!

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it.  Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.  

Costs

Rutherford College aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
