Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 9 and 10 Te Ao Māori/Te Reo Māori or by special permission from the Head of Te Ao Māori.


Te Ao Haka

This course will provide students with a common understanding of the knowledge, skills, attributes and attitudes associated within Te Ao Māori and Māori Performing Arts. Learning ranges from Waiata, mōteatea, haka, poi, waiata-ā-ringa and mau rākau.

These are the foundation skills for their journey if they wish to move through to Level 2 and 3 Te Ao Haka. Mahi done throughout the year will be assessed with two internal assessments and two external assessments.

KHS aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
