Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 Chinese or in consultation with the HOF/TIC. 

Students need to have displayed an understanding and competency in the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening in Year 10 Chinese.


Chinese

This course is a year-long program that aims to continue developing students' Chinese language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing to communicate in everyday contexts. In this course, students are expected to engage with, make meaning of, and explore the language used to express personal information, ideas, and opinions in short text types. Students will increase cultural competence and global awareness. They will also develop ideas of understanding structure in thinking and gaining effective communication skills by increasing understanding of successful learning methods.


Course Overview

Term 1
Unit 1: My City
In this unit, students will learn about describing their neighbourhood, the spatial location, and asking and giving directions.

Term 2
Unit 2: School
In this unit, students will learn to describe their school, subjects and teacher. They will be able to give information, express their ideas and opinions.

Unit 3: Shopping
In this short unit, students will learn some real-world expressions used in shopping situations, eg, asking about prices. negotiation, and making comparisons.

Internal Assessment 1 -Written or Oral Presentation (5 credits)

Term 3
Unit 4: My Holiday
In this unit, students will explore some famous places in Chinese-speaking regions, talk about weather, and school holidays. We will be focusing on expressing events in the past, present and future.
